SEO is one of the in things when it comes to internet marketing since it brings in the traffic. After all, spending on an attractive website is not enough to rake in the hits. And without the traffic, your efforts will come to naught.

But how many of us really have a working knowledge of SEO. I certainly do not, and I am constrained to relegate this important function to the experts, which are SEO companies and freelance SEO consultants.

The choice between the two depends on your needs.If what you are after is a complete package, the former is likely to be in a better position to service your requirements. An SEO company would have the resources and connections necessary for a wide range of internet marketing services. Of course, such capabilities and diversity come at a price.

In my case, a freelancer is adequate due to the simple needs of my small business. More often than not, a freelance consultant quotes a lower price as well as provides more personalized and focused service.

He (or she) may not be able to give technical assistance as far as web design is concerned, but if the tasks involved entail creation of quality content and back-linking, the freelance SEO should be able to deliver.

Of course, much depends on choosing a capable SEO consultant.During the selection process, you should consider the track record of the individual.  Obtaining referrals (that you can verify) will also help.Having handled an account similar to yours is a plus.

But aside from mere capabilities, the professional reputation of the freelancer in question is also important.Does he deliver as promised? Does he meet deadlines?  How open is he to the ideas of others?These are just some of the issues that should be addressed.

Given the importance of the SEO function to your internet marketing efforts, you have to make sure that you get a qualified and reputable party to handle it.  I am happy that I did.
